Win a unique trip to the Amazon Research Center in Peru!

Spend time in the Peruvian Amazon. Win a trip to the Amazon Research Center for Ornamental Fishes located a short distance from Iquitos, Peru.

Have you always wanted to visit the Amazon Rainforest? Please join us in this exciting raffle for a one-week stay for two people in the Peruvian Amazon at our Research Center. The Center is equipped with dormitory housing; each room has its own air conditioner, fan, bathroom with hot and cold running water, and access to laundry facilities. The Research Center is located approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Iquitos, Peru, in the Peruvian Amazon. Iquitos is unique in that it is surrounded on three sides by three different rivers: the Amazon, the Itaya, and the Nanay. Iquitos is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road - it is accessible solely by river or air - and it is often referred to as an island in the middle of the jungle.

The winner will receive:

- Roundtrip airfare for two to Iquitos (limit up to $2,000)

- Housing (dormitory room)

- Meals included (this does not include alcoholic beverages)

- Transportation to and from the Iquitos airport

- Access to visit the Manatee Rescue Center (CREA) and Amazon Forever – transportation to and from will be provided

- Access to the Aquarium of the Amazon

- We will customize the itinerary to accommodate your goals. The itinerary can include collecting trips (single day or night collecting trips, can include more than one trip), working in the Aquarium, and/or helping with research. Additionally, we recognize that you may want some personal time to explore on your own. If your primary interest is to collect fish, the package includes the costs associated with securing the fishermen, transportation to and from the collecting sites and housing of your fish until they are shipped. You will be responsible to obtain a permit from US Fish and Wildlife (or appropriate documentation) and all costs associated with shipping the fish.

- You will be provided with a list of common items to bring with you, insect repellents, and recommended vaccinations when traveling to South America.

Needs to be used by September 1, 2024 – please confer with Dr. Mazeroll as to what time of the year is best to travel to this area. Please note that the purchase of raffle tickets is not an approved tax-deductible item. You must be 18 years or older to win.

COVID may or may not be an issue at the time of your travel. We recommend that you check the CDC for any travel restrictions once you know when you want to travel and the required vaccinations when traveling to South America.
